You are cordially invited to attend Elvin J Carey Post Chapter 16th Anniversary and Party For Our 501(c)3 Arm the Elvin J Carey Living Memorial

October 18, 2025

Dear Valued Comrades, Family and Friends,

Preserving Purpose. Honoring Service. Empowering the Mission.

For over three decades, Matthew House-Chicago has stood on the front lines of compassion-providing housing, mental healthcare, food, and vital support to individuals, families experiencing homelessness, including our homeless veterans (33% of the homeless population). Their mission is deeply aligned with the values of the American Legion: Service, Sacrifice, and Solidarity.

Today, we face a critical moment.

Matthew House Chicago also was the operational headquarters of Elvin J Carey Post 236 since 2008. And on June 30th, 2025 Matthew House closed down it’s doors and operation, leaving a big gap in services to our veterans and the community. The Elvin J Carey Post Family have decided to pursue purchasing the Matthew House property or a building in nearby.

Rising costs, shrinking funding, and growing needs mean we can’t carry out this mission alone. We’re reaching out to those who know what it means to show up, stand tall, and support a cause worth preserving.

We humbly invite you and your organization to partner with us through a financial gift or sponsorship to support our Preserving Purpose, Honoring Service, Empowering the Mission Campaign. Your contribution will help:

~ Support veterans and families in crisis

~ Sustain trauma-informed care and essential daily services

~ Preserve the legacy of service we’ve built in our community

Every dollar is more than charity-----it’s a statement of remembrance, honor, and commitment to action.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation at www.ejclm.org or by mailing your gift to 416 Douglas Street, Park Forest, IL 60466.

If you have questions or wish to connect directly, I can be reach at 1-773-330-5219 or ejclmfund@ gmail.com

Together, we can preserve the mission. Together, we can honor the call.
